John Brennan was the Director of the CIA until January 2017. He served with the agency for 25 years. His focus on counterterrorism and served as CIA station chief in Saudia Arabia. He left the agency in 2005 but returned in 2009 and was confirmed as director March 2013.

As the CIA director during the 2016 elections, Brennan had oversight of the agency case on Russia. The agency affirmed the intent of Russia to manipulate Trump staffers, the hacking of the DNC and affect the outcome of the election.

Brennan testified to the House Intelligence Committee on May 23, 2017. He stated that it was clear that Russia ‘brazenly interfered’ in the 2016 election cycle. In his testimony, Brennan avoided confirming “collusion” yet affirmed Russian intent to manipulate Trump aides.
