The United States House Committee on Intelligence focuses on overseeing the United States Intelligence Community which includes seventeen organizations of the United States Government and the Military Intelligence Program. The House Committee on Intelligence also includes four subcommittees (CIA, DOD Intelligence and Overhead Architecture, Emerging Threats and NSA and Cybersecurity) which focus on more specialized issues with regard to intelligence and security. Moreover, the House Committee on Intelligence is responsible for but not limited to the Cybersecurity Act of 2015, the FY17 Intelligence Authorization Act, and Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA) 702.

The House Committee on Intelligence with regard to the Russian investigation seeks to examine and determine if there were any links between Russian operatives and people on the Trump campaign, by paying close attention to leaked information. Much like the Senate Intelligence Committee, the end goal is to create a document to outline the Committee’s findings.

The current chairman of the Committee is Devin Nunes of California’s 22nd District, who works alongside Ranking Member Adam Schiff of California’s 28th District. Additionally, there are 13 Majority (Republican) Members including Chairman Devin Nunes and 9 Minority (Democrat) Members including Ranking Member Adam Schiff.

Most notably the House Committee on Intelligence has been integral in the investigation of Committee Chairman Devin Nunes who has since distanced himself from the House investigation on Russia. The reason behind this decision to step down is related to a summoning by President Trump to the Whitehouse in which he asked questions regarding the identities of “unmasked” Trump associates by the Obama administration. The Committee has also subpoenaed President Trump’s former national security advisor Michael Flynn in hopes to gain more insight with regard to Russian collusion and involvement in the 2016 presidential election.
