Dmitry Peskov is the Deputy Chief of the Presidential Executive Office and the Presidential Press Secretary. He graduated from Moscow State University in 1989 and began working for the USSR Foreign Ministry in 1989. After 6 years in the Russian Embassy in Turkey, he began working in the press service of the Russian President in 2000. Peskov has been the presidential press security since 2012. Peskov is considered a close associate of President Vladimir Putin.
Peskov has vehemently denied that Russia was involved in the hacking of the DNC or any portion of the U.S. electoral process. He has stated that the U.S. and Russia are on the verge of a new Cold War given these allegations against Russia. Additionally, Peskov, speaking on behalf of the Kremlin, has suggested that Kislyak’s meetings with Trump campaign members were not unusual and stated they had nothing to do with the 2016 election. Peskov has also stated that the American public has been subjected to propaganda against Russia and that is likely why the public believes the hacking charges. He has also stated that Russia is being “demonized” by the U.S. Russia experts suggest that the Kremlin uses a false narrative about “russophobia” as evidence for negative views of Russia.
