Nikolai Gorokhov (Николай Горохов) is a Russian lawyer who has represented the family of Sergei Magnitsky, including Magnitsky’s mother, and Hermitage Capital Management’s William Browder since 2011. He was also a key witness in the U.S. government’s civil forfeiture case against Prevezon Holdings, a company accused of laundering proceeds of the tax fraud Magnitsky exposed.
On the night of March 21, 2017, Gorokhov fell from the fifth floor of his apartment building outside Moscow and suffered severe head injuries; he survived. The fall came on the eve of a Moscow City Court appeal hearing he was due to argue concerning new evidence in the case. Russian authorities and media said he fell while workmen were using a winch to move a jacuzzi into his apartment. Browder said he had been thrown. No finding of foul play has been made.
