As Summer 2016 moved to fall, Guccifer 2.0 emerged to add to the confusing cut out games aimed to destroy the Democratic Party. To counter the claims made by cyber security firm Crowdstrike, that the hacking of the DNC was likely done by Russian state actors, Guccifer 2.0’s blog claimed that a lone Romanian hacker was behind the breach. To tease this, the post on June 18, 2016, released financial reports of the DNC. for days and weeks a steady release of documents from DNC and DCCC were leaked via the wordpress blog run under this moniker. However, early on journalists were skeptical of the claims Guccifer 2 including Motherboard magazine who brought along Romanians to chat with the hacker. They concluded that the person or people on the other side of the profile were using machine translation and were not native Romanian speakers. U.S. intelligence community was much more specific and claim that the Russian military intelligence unit GRU are behind the profile. Guccifer2 continued to make claims of hacks including claims of hacking the Clinton Foundation. This claim was quickly debunked. It was later shown that information shared was already known from the to be from the DCCC hacking.
Donald Trump’s long time dirty tricks captain Roger Stone was in contact with Guccifer in mid-August 2016. Later, texts were released of communications between the two. Portions of the messags were published via THE WASHINGTON TIMES and THE SMOKING GUN. He later PUBLISHED messages he claimed where between the two regarding the hacking of Hillary Clinton. Additionally, a Florida GOP consultant Aaron admits he worked with Guccifer 2.0, analyzing hacked data. Nevins admitted to asking for and receiving data on Democrats from the Russian cut out.
Guccifer 2.0 channel went quiet after the first of the year 2017 but before the Trump election.
