Carter Page emerged in March of 2016 as one of five senior foreign policy advisors Trump named when asked by the Washington Post editorial board. Page is a business school graduate, PhD and the founder of Global Energy Capital (founded in 2008) which is located next to Trump Tower in NYC. GEC is a company that seeks and promotes investments in the global energy sector.

Carter Page is a bit of a mystery man in that no American or Russian experts in the Russian energy business could be found that knew of him prior to Trump announcing his role in the campaign. According to Page’s bio, he spent 7 years as an investment banker at Merrill Lynch in London, Moscow and New York where he most recently served as Chief Operating Officer of the Energy and Power Group,” “He was involved in over $25 billion of transactions in the energy and power sector. He spent 3 years in Moscow where he was responsible for the opening of the Merrill office and was an advisor on key transactions for Gazprom, RAO UES and others.”

Page left the campaign in September 2016. Since then it has been revealed he has had extensive ties to the Rosneft Deal and discussions with Russian operatives in NYC. Carter Page was named in the Steele Dossier as instrumental in coordinating Trump-Russia collusion to hack the 2016 Presidential election.

Since winning the election, the White House has backed away from Page significantly. In March 2017 Press Secretary, Sean Spicer said this  “There is a fine line between people who want to be part of something that they never had an official role in, and people who actually played a role in the campaign or the transition,” In April 2017 The Washington Post broke a story that the FBI had obtained a FISA warrant against Carter Page in July of 2016. We have yet to see the evidence they submitted to the court to obtain the warrant or the evidence collected.

Carter has appeared several times on television to tell his side of the story. He has been widely criticized as being flippant, inconsistent and self-incriminating. He has yet to admit who brought him into the campaign. It has remained a mystery and another source of suspicion.
